3 Historical Facts That Point to Donald Trump Conning the Nation Again
Our belief in the American system of government rests on the assumption that our political candidates are not treasonous, pathological liars
HISTORICAL FACT #1: On March 30, 1981, John Hinckley Jr. shot and seriously wounded President Ronald Reagan in a fail assassination attempt.
In that incident, the shooter rapidly fired a .22 caliber revolver, known as a Saturday Night Special, six times. Despite a quick reaction of secret service agents and a citizen who hit Hinckley in the head and wrestled him to the ground, Reagan’s press secretary James Brady was shot in the head, two security people were wounded.
Reagan was hit in the lung off a freak shot that ricocheted off the bullet-proof limousine. He lost half his blood on the operating table and the bullet lodged within an inch of his heart.
From an AP Report at the time:
Just before he [Reagan] was put under for surgery, he cracked to his surgeons, “I hope you are all Republicans.”
Dr. Joseph Giordano, a liberal Democrat, replied: “Today, Mr. President, we are all Republicans.”
A groundswell of support grew for gun control measures that finally resulted in the 1993 Brady Handgun Violence Prevent Act, named for the press secretary who was paralyzed and suffered brain damage from the shooting.
In 1991, Reagan took out an op-ed in 1991, calling for more gun control that led to the 1994 assault weapons ban.
Now compare that incident to the assassination attempt on Donald Trump and the reaction afterwards.
The shooter used an AR-15 rifle. The damage done by these bullets is far worse than a revolver.
Trump miraculously escaped any real damage from a far more dangerous bullet, but was able to pose for the cameras as he raised a defiant fist.
There were no detailed reports of the doctor’s examination, the bullets used, or how the secret service found and killed a shooter hidden 150 yards away. By killing him, there is no chance to gain information from him about his motivations or potential accomplices.
Within a few hours extremist Republicans were blaming Democrats for the shooting.
HISTORICAL FACT #2: The people of the United States have been duped by dark forces probably more than any other country in history.
We are so naturally trusting of our institutions and people around us.
The U.S. entered wars against Mexico, Spain, Vietnam, and Iraq on falsified evidence presented by rich, powerful forces in the media or the military.
When it comes to stolen elections, the only ones doing the stealing are Republicans, like they tried to do in North Carolina in 2018. And then again, in 2020, with Trump’s fake elector plot that has resulted in multiple felony charges against Republicans in Arizona and Michigan, as well as key Trump staffers.
And yet, somehow, the former con man-in-chief is still being shielded by judicial appointees who refuse to do uphold their oaths to the law and the courts.
The default setting of human beings, conditioned through innumerable cycles of evolution, is to believe in the honesty of others.
Without trust, the first societies could not have developed. From the American Psychological Association:
Research has consistently shown that people’s ability to detect lies is no more accurate than chance, or flipping a coin. This finding holds across all types of people — students, psychologists, judges, job interviewers, and law enforcement personnel (Personality and Social Psychology Review, 2006).
HISTORICAL FACT #3: When the guy who wants to subvert elections becomes the “victim,” be very, very afraid.
In 1923, Adolph Hitler and the Nazi Party attempted a coup d’état in Munich. He was found guilty of treason and sentenced to five years of prison, but served only nine months before being released.
Six years later, the German Reichstag (parliament) was burned down due to arson. The Nazis accused the Communists of trying to derail Germany’s “national renewal and demanded emergency legislation that paved the way for Hitler to become a dictator.
Trump has committed multiple acts of treason, trying to intimidate election officials to change the results and asking his Vice President not to do his Constitutional duty and certify the election results.
Everything points to us being conned once again.
I don’t buy it, and I hope the American people see through Trump’s plans and prevent him from regaining power.
God help us if we are not up to the challenge.
