Depression symptoms: “overwhelming sadness, low energy, loss of appetite, and a lack of interest in things that used to bring pleasure.”
Three of the four above symptoms define getting old.
When you get to the point where you ache every day, can’t perform at the same physical level as you did in your youth, start forgetting things, and define the term experiencing new things as watching something on Netflix you didn’t think you would ever be interested in, it’s really hard to separate existential crises from depression.
It’s like the paranoid who actually has people out to get him.
The first time I actually was happy about my advancing age was going to a Korean BBQ place with an all-you-can-eat menu that featured a reduced Senior price!
Anyway, I’m really sorry to hear about your wife.
