Disturbing… humorous…educational (thanks for the links, I usually have to look up a few terms you use in every story). This may be the darkest work of yours I’ve ever read.
We are surrounded by death every day, but it has been sanitized, viewed from a safe distance with black and white video footage that doesn’t capture the color and detail of the violence, desensitized by the garish animated images of video games and borderline slap stick mayhem in zombie shows, and covered by shrouds to hide the shattered bodies and the families who mourn the victims.
I don’t really know what to make of your description of the intimate and gruesome details of killing a living creature. Maybe you’re questioning your choice. Maybe you’d do it again, the next time a porcupine finds her way into your garden. Maybe I’m just more sensitive about the subject after losing my dad, so any account of the end of life is going to affect me.
