I agree with everything you wrote that women have the right to protect themselves and not worry about inconveniencing other people.
Are you writing specifically about the U.S. or everywhere?
I think it’s safe to say that organized culture has promoted the sexualization of women since cave men probably dragged off women to mate.
Why is it that different cultures, even those where women are forced to follow far stricter traditional roles, have such vastly different symptoms of dysfunction?
I know it’s not a perfect proxy for the condition of women’s lives, and it’s possible that the number of women who come forward to actually report rape may vary greatly from country to country, but take a look at rape statistics throughout the world.
Rape Statistics By Country 2019
Rape is unlawful sexual activity typically involving sexual intercourse done forcibly or under threat of injury against…
In the U.S. there are 27.3 reported incidents of rape per 100,000 citizens.
Japan, India, and Turkey impose far more rigid gender roles. Prostitution is either legal or readily available, while people can still use the internet to watch porn. And yet those countries have some of the lowest rates in the world.
In France, outdoor advertising and public TV features female nudity, and yet their incidence of rape is 40% lower than the U.S. at 16.2.
In Germany (9.4) and the Netherlands (9.2), not only is there nudity in the media, but prostitution is legal, and the incidence of rape is 66% lower than the U.S.
Canada has all the same access to U.S. TV, films and advertising, as well as online pornography. It is also legal to sell sexual services, although it is illegal to solicit in public places.
And yet Canada’s incidence of rape is 1.7 per 100,000.
With regard to violence, the US has three times as many guns as Canada, but in 2011 the CDC reported that there were roughly 11,000 homicides in the U.S., while Statistics Canada reported 158 homicides from using firearms.
How do we explain the dysfunction in the U.S. when our neighbor to the north and closest proxy exhibits completely different behavior?
