I feel like my Game of Thrones analysis is creeping into my other writing like grey scale, as I find theories in every detail. Why did Gutbloom give this graduate level course the number 404? The internet has given us countless memes and gags involving 404 page errors:
What is he saying about his course? Will it lead us to an empty classroom in an abandoned school in South Boston? Is it an explanation of the nature of death — a never ending voyage in search of a destination that doesn’t exist — or is it there something more (or less) than meets the eye? Are exchanges a reference to the attempt to repeal and replace Obamacare?
What about this reference to dryer sheets? (A veiled reference to white privilege of living in suburbia, which is a by-product of the institutional racism that still affects millions of lives? A modern symbol for cling-free burial shrouds? Or a sly double entendre about desiccated defecation if we imagine the narrator is writing with a heavy accent?)
Finally, is enamel pot a metaphor for some new popular strain of which I am unaware? “That pot has a lot of magic.” Seems pretty obvious at this point. If Heisenberg can say things like “this is not meth,” how do we know that cooking chowder is not some advanced form of an illegal drug?
