I think this part of the speech is really interesting:
What we did is often difficult for some people to understand. They ask us quite often why if you’re dissatisfied do you stay in a place. Well, if you didn’t care a lot about it, you wouldn’t stay… My mother used to say “you know, I’ll always love you, but there are times when I certainly won’t like you.”
First, it made me think about this as a foreshadowing of why she stayed married after the Monica Lewinsky scandal.
Second, her mother’s comment made me think about Michelle Obama’s 2008 speech, where she was attacked for saying
“…for the first time in my adult life, I am really proud of my country, because it feels like hope is making a comeback… not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change.”
In Hillary’s speech, she spoke about trying to make the impossible possible. The themes are very similar, but look at the public perception of each woman.
Even though I preferred Sanders, I hope progressives will stop validating the nasty narrative invented by the GOP and supported by the mass media and get fully behind the Clinton campaign.
