It’s hard to believe the owners refused to go over the luxury tax for even one year. when they were one bad call (Giannis’ 6th foul in the second overtime in Game 3) from making the NBA Finals.
They could have signed Brogdon and then started trading pieces if they didn’t reach the Finals next season. The extra revenue from playing 8 playoff games this year and next year, plus the national exposure, increasing their brand value had to offset the cost of bringing back Brogdon.
