Josh, every forward thinking person loves Bernie Sanders. Please don’t lose your enthusiasm if we get stuck with Hillary. Politics is mostly bullish*t and corruption. The real heroes, like Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, are fighting vested interests and structural mechanisms that make it very difficult for them to win the White House. And even if they win, they will face the same obstructionist GOP-dominated Congress that will do the exact same thing they’ve done for the last eight years.
Your passion needs to extend beyond this primary season to the national election. Do the work to prevent a Republican president from making us wish for the good old days of George W. Bush.
Do the work at your local level. We need to overcome the dominance of the Republicans in state legislatures, because it allows them to control Congressional districts, causing huge imbalances in Congress. The GOP has benefitted from the most egregious gerrymandering in American history:
In 2012, the first congressional election after the last round of gerrymandering, Democratic House candidates won 50.59 percent of the vote — or 1.37 million more votes than Republican candidates — yet secured only 201 seats in Congress, compared to 234 seats for Republicans.”
