My two personal favorites:
- “Don’t you know who I think I am?”
- “It’s crowded here at the center of the universe”
But seriously, if you think the personal development and self-help space is full of crap, why are you writing listicles? Why is your web site devoted to personal development? [UPDATE: Just saw your facebook page. Good job with all the people in your group. Is your book selling? If so, well done.]
Think about your goal as a writer. If you want to make money in the space, you’re not going to get a lot of credibility or respect from other authors if you’re dumping on the genre. Ads that say “my product rules and everybody else sucks” don’t work too well with the public.
If you want to help people, maybe a certain number will respond to your particular brand of “don’t give a shit” therapy. But if you want to reach a larger audience, what do you need to learn?
Maybe reaching out to a self help guy you admire would help. Maybe he would give you some advice or take a liking to you. One of the biggest things that men need in life is to find a mentor. It’s more than just validation; it’s about learning the secrets from someone who has already taken the path you wish to follow.
