The last nine years of my mom’s life were affected by senile dementia. As she lost all memory of who she was and what she believed, I felt like I had lost her years before her physical body stopped functioning.

All those embarrassing or irritating moments have been softened with the passage of years, because as crazy as she could be, she loved me more than anything else in the world.
