Maybe you should ask yourself why you chose to use that word.
What was his response?
He recognized that even with eyesight, his perception was limited, which is a direct reference to Socrates “I know that I nothing.”
And he stated the idea that we can’t know anyone until we have walked in their shoes for a mile.
Finally, he saw the elephant’s beauty a little bit better and asked her for a date. So it’s clear that the wise man was not insulted or rejected in any way. He appreciated her honesty and wanted to ask her out for coffee, which is symbolic of the healthier relationship that everyone should be looking for.
Rebuff means “to reject in an abrupt or ungracious manner.
Why would you use that word to describe the action in the story?
IMO, people choose words for a specific reason. Either they don’t know what the word means, or it captures their emotions and perceptions at the time.
