… as they won’t be afraid to challenge Randle at the rim or throw a lob over the undersized big man. Imagine Randle trying to defend a pick-and-roll attack featuring James Harden and Clint Capela, with Harden driving full speed ahead at the rim while Capela quietly moves in for a potential alley-oop. It wouldn’t be pretty.
There’s not that much to imagine here. In the first game against the Rockets as a starter, Randle had a 29–15–6 in 33 minutes (+8 plus-minus rating) during a double overtime loss at Houston, compared to Capela’s line of 7–7-2 in 32 minutes (-9 plus-minus rating).
In the second game, at Staples Center, Randle had a 17–8–1 game in 18 minutes (-3 plus-minus rating), while Capela’s line was 10–12–0 in 21 minutes (+9 plus-minus rating).
Overall, Randle had a positive impact in both games.
