This is monstrous. I started studying this a little after being horrified by the film and book 12 years a slave. I know you already know this, but to the less historically inclined, the slave trade is also referred to as “the African Holocaust,” with an estimated five million people who died during the crossing or right afterwards in the Cuban “re-education” camps.
