We live in a country with a two party system, so elections are a binary decision. Every vote NOT cast for candidate A (whether it is through abstention, voting for a 3rd party or write-in candidate, or a vote for candidate B) decreases candidate A’s chances of winning.
In 2016, Clinton won the popular vote by over 3,000,000 votes, but lost narrowly in Wisconsin (22,748 votes), Michigan (10,704 votes) and Pennsylvania (44,292 votes). Exit polls indicated that there was a much lower voter turnout in key urban areas in these states among African Americans than there was in 2012.*
Ms. Harden is a young, black woman, a group that is among the highest in both voter turnout and Democratic support.
If she states “no one should have to compromise their morals for a system that has never fought for them,” she is advocating for the idea that other voters (especially those who would identify with her age and race) should do the same thing.
How exactly will her morals be supported by another four years of Agent Orange?
Every progressive voter who turns away from the Democrats in this election is choosing the worst possible outcome for the entire country (not just registered voters).
You don’t have to say Trump is better than Biden if your words and eventual vote decrease the probability that Biden will win the election.
*Black voter turnout fell by 12.3% in Wisconsin, 12.4% in Michigan, and 2.1% in Pennsylvania.
