Yes, that scene may have been the dumbest scene in the history of the show, from almost every conceivable perspective:
- Physics: A modern crossbow can shoot up to 500 yards, with little accuracy. The top range for a medieval catapult was 1500 feet. But Qyburn’s scorpions can shoot laser guided missiles going upward on a straight line over long distances.
- Predator vision: a flying dragon is like a giant bird of prey, and would have the instincts to fly high enough to see all possible targets and threats. They would also have tremendous peripheral vision and be aware of objects coming into view.
- Intelligence: according to some maesters, dragons are supposed to be more intelligent than humans. On the other hand, Jon Snow may be the stupidest person in the entire GOT universe, so his bond with Rhaegal might be saying something about his inability to go into evasive action after being hit with the first arrow.
