You are the American Dream personified and here are a few reasons why (but you’re too humble to mention them):

  1. Your sense of wonder. Immigrants coming here have the child-like gift of seeing this country with an innocence and freshness that natives don’t have. Most of us born here don’t have the ability to get outside of long established ways of thinking to see things in a completely different way. Nobody would have the idea or the guts to open a venture capital group in a rug store.
  2. Your will to survive. Anyone who survives truly life threatening conditions has a will to endure and succeed beyond people who grow up in more comfortable conditions. You are fearless because you know that failing is not a big deal compared to getting blown up or starving.
  3. Your humility (even now inspite of your immense success) gave you the ability to look at anything — even an attic above a yogurt shop — as a step up. Most people here would just be depressed and self medicate to get through their days.
  4. Your compassion. Knowing the suffering of others in your home country gives you the ability to care for the well being of the startup founders, their employees, their customers, and, ultimately, making the world a better place.

People like you validate our belief that the symbol of America is the Statue of Liberty, not a barbed wire fence. Congratulations!
