…s them hope. This concept really hit me in a recent conversation with a Millennial girl who stated, “I am just having a tough time reconciling the Gospel I have come to know and love to the way conservatives talk and act.” Frankly, so am I.
The Halcyon Movement
You make a really good point here. It’s tough when the Republican party can be so at odds with the words of Jesus:
Jesus: “But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?”[1 John 3:17 KJV]
GOP: Slash programs that feed families, care for the elderly and disabled, and house the homeless, etc.
Jesus: “Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.” [Matthew 9:35]
GOP: Try to deprive millions of Americans of health care coverage by voting to repeal the ACA over 50 times.
Jesus: “But if ye had known what this meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless.” [Matthew 12:7 KJV]
GOP: Support the death penalty and try children and the mentally disabled as adults.
Millenials are not moving away from Jesus’ teaching as they get older, they are simply seeing the hypocrisy of political and religious institutions that say one thing and do the exact opposite.
